Multiple Garnet Runners Qualify for Conference Meet
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Swarthmore track and field teams competed in the annual Haverford Quad meet, Monday evening in Alumni Field House on the campus of Haverford College.
Junior Nyika Corbett (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) won the women’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:40.23. Corbett marked the eighth-fastest time in the Conference with her race-time.
Three times was the charm in the women’s 3,000-meter run as freshman Hannah Rose (Cronton-Hudson, N.Y. / Croton-Harmon) paced two other Garnet runners, crossing the line at 11:02.08, which was good for second place; not far behind sophomore Ada Okun (New York City, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) placed third while classmate Rebecca Woo (Davis, Calif. / Davis Senior) was the fourth to cross at 11:11.43.
Freshman Taylor Wueker (Washington, D.C. / TC Williams) picked up third place in the women’s pole vault, reaching a 5.59-meter height.
Sophomore Patrick Harnett (Syracuse, N.Y. / Westhill Academy) placed third in the men’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:21.13, qualifying for Conference Championships.
In the women’s 800-meter run, senior Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) placed fourth with a time of 2:30.47 ( the seventh-fastest time in the Conference this season).
Junior Ashley Davies (New Providence, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) placed fifth in the women’s mile, clocking in at 5:46.35.
The following all qualified for the Centennial Conference Championships in their respective events:
sophomore Chris Mayer-Bacon (Wenonah, N.J. / Gateway Regional) and Andrew Crispin, 400-meter;
junior Andrew Van Buren (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Academy), 1 mile;
freshman Daniel Ly (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey), long jump and triple jump.
At the end of the week the Garnet will travel to Boston University, participating in the annual Valentine Invite. The meet will begin on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and finish-up the following afternoon.
