Mullarkey Sets Program Record in One Mile

NEWARK, Del. -- Senior Cait Mullarkey set a program record in the mile run at the University of Delaware Winter Invitational on Friday evening while three fellow Swarthmore track runners marked personal bests.

Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) reached the finish line at 5:08.82. Also etching her name in the program history books was Bess Ritter '09 (Quaker Hill, Conn. / Waterford), who recorded a 5:26.54 time for a third-place finish in the mile race. Earlier in the night, Ritter finished second in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.25.

Senior Dan Hodson (Trumbull, Conn. / Fairfield Prep) ran an all-time personal-best in the one mile with a first place time of 4:38.56.

Kenyetta Givans ’12 (Conshohocken, Pa. / Plymouth-Whitemarsh) earned a second-place finish in the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56, which qualifies her for the 2009 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Senior Erik Saka (Quincy, Ill. / Quincy) was the first to cross the line in the men’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:19.31.

The Garnet indoor track & field teams will travel to New York City next Friday, January 16th to compete in the annual NYU Invitational at the New York City Armory.
