No. 16 Gettysburg Down Garnet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The #16 Gettysburg field hockey team collected a 4-0 Centennial Conference win over Swarthmore at Clothier Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Swarthmore (5-11, 1-7 CC) came out strong in the first half with an organized fighting spirit. Their aggressive tactics on defensive helped clear the ball out of the back field, but they struggled with transition play. Senior defender Sarah Reynolds (Potomac, Md. / Holton-Arms School) stood out for Swarthmore, picking two defensive saves on the afternoon for the Garnet.
Gettysburg (11-5, 6-2 CC) scored three goals in the later part of the first half while edging the Garnet in the shot total 12-2. The Bullets sealed the game with their final goal in the second half to make the score 4-0.
Garnet junior Gina Grubb (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) started in goal and collected five saves. Sophomore goalie Katie Ashmore (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) had five saves in the final 22 minutes of the game.
