Swat Shocks Ducks

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- #23 Swarthmore picked up a win over unbeaten #5 Stevens Institute of Technology, 2-0,  in men's soccer action on a hot and humid on Saturday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex.

The loss halted Stevens' home unbeaten streak at 62 games; the Ducks' last home loss was October 19, 2002 versus the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Just ten minutes into the game Morgan Langley '11 (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School) [pictured left] scored the game-winner to make the score 1-0 at 10:24. Morgan Langley ripped a shot from 24-yards out to slip through Ducks’ goalie’s hands as he attempted a diving save.

The Garnet (4-0-1) held a 7-4 shot advantage over the Ducks (5-1) in the first half.

Swarthmore scored an insurance goal on a corner kick early in the second half.  Junior Dylan Langley (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School) redirected a rebound that came from the left hand post, to David Sterngold '12 (Muncy, Pa. / Muncy). Sterngold then knocked in the pass at 62:32, making the score 2-0.

The game saw some rough physical action as a red card and six yellows were handed out to each respective teams, while 18 fouls were committed.

Junior captain Zach Weimar (Rutledge, Pa. / Friends Central) collected three saves in goal for the Garnet while Zach Carr (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) posted six saves for the Ducks.

Swarthmore continues its three-game road trip with a small journey down Rt. 320,  playing Widener on Wednesday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m.
