Mazzucco, Sartori Named All-Centennial
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore College seniors Frank Mazzucco and Dan Sartori have been named to the 2008 All-Centennial Conference team for men's lacrosse, as voted by the conference coaches. Mazzucco, a goalie, and Sartori, a defenseman, are second-team selections, as announced by the Conference office Tuesday morning.
Sartori (Darien, Conn. / Darien), a team captain, ranked second on the team with 51 ground balls on a Garnet defensive unit that allowed an average of 8.01 goals per game, third in the Centennial Conference, one of the top men’s lacrosse conferences in Division III (three teams were nationally-ranked in 2008).
Sartori earns All-Conference for the second straight year (he was honorable mention in 2007). Sartori is the first Garnet defenseman since Tucker Zenerle ’00 to receive the honor twice in his career.
Sartori, a biology and economics major, has started in 54 of the 55 games he has played in a Garnet uniform. For the third year in a row, he earned a spot on the Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Mazzucco (Redding, Conn. / Joel Barlow), a two-year captain, has led the Garnet defense between the posts for the past four years. This season he started in all 15 games and ranked second in the Conference in goals against average (7.90) while posting the fourth-best save percentage (.588).
Mazzucco was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week and E.C.A.C Defensive Player of the Week for his play during two one-goal victories over Goucher and McDaniel during the week of March 31 thru April 6.
A history major, Mazzucco has started every game of his four-year career. Mazzucco has also been on the Conference Academic Honor Roll each of the past three years.
