Two Swarthmore Run in Steeplechase at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Swarthmore's Cait Mullarkey and Ross Weller ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the historic Penn Relay Carnival on the campus of University of Pennsylvania on Thursday evening.
Mullarkey (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy), a junior, posted a personal best 11:02.22 race-time while registering an NCAA ‘B’ cut-time. She shaved 18 seconds off her previous school record of 11:20.25 that she ran on April 12, 2008 at the TCNJ Invite.
Senior runner Weller (McConnellsburg, Pa. / Mercersburg Academy) crossed the finish line at 9:29.42.
In its 113-year history, the Carnival has provided competition for more athletes than any other track meet in the world. During the past ten years, more than 100,000 young men and women from high schools, colleges, clubs, the armed services, preparatory schools, junior high schools, middle schools, parochial schools, and elementary schools have competed in the Carnival. The athletes range in age from under eight to over 80.
