Garnet Tennis Holds Off Mules

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis team came back to win 5-4 over Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon at the Michael Mullen Indoor Tennis Center, moving to third in the Centennial Conference standings.

The Garnet (8-4, 7-1 CC) extended their series winning-streak against the Mules (7-3, 6-2 CC) to three.

The Garnet got off to a 2-1 start when the number-one doubles pair of Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) and Rachel Wallwork ’10 (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) picked up an 8-3 win, and freshman Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) and senior Jamie Midyette (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Wallwork continues to remain undefeated in Conference play as she won her 10th match of the season with a pair of 6-3 scores at No.1 singles. Midyette picked up a Garnet win at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-2.

Muhlenberg added two more wins during number four and five singles to knot the score at 4-4.

Hickman had the home crowd cheering her on for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory over the Mules in number six singles to clinch the win.

The Garnet will continue a three-game home stand when they host Bates on Monday, April 14 at 4:00 p.m.
