Garnet Ditch Ramblers
ROSEMONT, Pa. -- Garnet freshmen Melissa Emmerson and Krista Scheirer, as well as sophomore Kathryn Riley, each drove in four runs in a 21-0 win at Rosemont in non-conference softball action Thursday afternoon. In the pitching circle, Riley recorded her second no-hitter of the season as Swarthmore improved to 12-8 overall.
The Garnet bats came alive for 12 hits off Rosemont (0-12) pitching, while accounting for a season-high for runs scored. Emmerson (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) drilled a three-run home run, her third of the season, in the first inning as Swarthmore scored eight first-inning runs. Emmerson ended the afternoon 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four runs driven in.
Riley (Dagsboro, Del. / Indian River) pushed her Centennial-leading RBI total to 23 with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, scoring twice. Scheirer (Norristown, Pa. / Germantown Academy) posted two hits herself while driving in a career-best four runs. Catcher Michele Perch (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon) and designated player Maggie Vizcarra (Long Beach, Calif. / Long Beach) scored four runs apiece.
Riley (9-4) fanned a career-high 12 Rambler batters in 5.0 innings of work, running her season total to 89 (also a career-best) on the season.
Swarthmore returns home on Saturday afternoon for a Centennial doubleheader with 2007 Conference champion Gettysburg. First pitch at Clothier Fields is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
