Garnet Have No Fear of the Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore (1-1, 1-0 CC) women's tennis team opened up their Conference schedule sweeping McDaniel (0-1, 0-1 CC) on Saturday afternoon in the Mullan Tennis Center.

Picking up their first win of afternoon Swarthmore doubles pair Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) and Luann Cignavitch ’11 (Charleston, S.C. / Poter-Gaud) remained undefeated in doubles action for the season beating Ali Johns and Jamie Latham.

Senior Jamie Midyette (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) and Marissa Lee ’09 (Cary, N.C. / Cary Academy) earned an 8-0 win over Green Terror Rachel Baumgarden and Becky Parks.

Sofia Gall ’09 (Potomac, Md. / Winston Churchill) and Kearney Bangs ’10 (Kingston, Wash. / North Kitsap) won all eight games against Caitlin Daniels and Maria Mackell.

Park and Midyette both posted 6-0, 6-0 wins against the Green Terror, while sophomore Rebecca Committo (Reading, Mass. / Reading Memorial) went 6-0, 6-1.

In singles action Cignvitch picked up her career-first Centennial match against Baumgarden with a score of 8-0.

Earning 8-0 wins for the Garnet to close the afternoon’s match were Gall and Bangs.

Swarthmore women’s tennis will travel to Madrid, Spain during the spring vacation for a week long training session. The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 16th when they travel to Gettysburg.
