Miller, Lewis Headed to NCAA Swim Championships
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore swimmers Anne Miller '10 and Jennie Lewis '08 have earned spots in the 2008 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships to be held at Miami University (Ohio) on March 13-15.
Miller (Buffalo, N.Y. / Buffalo Seminary), All-America in two events in 2007, is well on her way to becoming the most-decorated swimmer in Swarthmore’s illustrious program having collected six medals at the recent Centennial Conference championship meet. The sophomore (right) automatically qualified for the NCAA meet with a time of 2:05.57 with a gold-medal winning performance in the 200-butterfly final. She won the gold for the second consecutive year, becoming the fourth Swarthmore woman to repeat as Centennial Champion and the first to accomplish the feat in two separate events (she repeated in the 100 fly). Her 200-fly time also set a new Centennial Championship meet record, breaking the mark (2:06.79) she set in 2007.
Miller and Lewis (Darien, Conn. / Darien) also posted NCAA provisional times in the 100 fly preliminaries and again in the finals, winning gold medals with matching times of 57.72 on Saturday night. The pair hit the wall at the same time, setting a new college, Centennial and Conference Championship meet record in the process.
This will be Lewis’ first NCAA Championship meet, making her the 48th national qualifier (men and women) under the watch of Swarthmore head swim coach Sue Davis.
