Five Runners Qualify for Centennial Championships

HAVERFORD, Pa.-- The Swarthmore indoor track and field teams traveled down the mainline to compete in Monday night's Haverford Quad.

Garnet runner Nyika Corbet ’10 (Myrtle Point, Ore. / Myrtle Point) placed fourth overall in the women’s 800 meter run posting a time of 2:26.37, which qualified her for the Centennial Conference championships. Leading a pack of Garnet runners in the 3,000 run who also all qualified for the Conference championships was first year Caitlin Russell (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) who collected a fourth place finish at 11:23.29 followed by Ashley Davis ’10 (New Providence, N.J. / Hunterdon Central Regional) in fifth (11:26.08) and Rebecca Woo (Davis, Calif. / Davis Senior) in sixth (11:35.84).

Garnet junior Yonhjun Heo (Newburgh, Ind. / Castle) ran in both the 55 meter dash and the 200 meter, placing eight (7.18) and seventh (25.12) respectively. Picking up a fifth place finish in the 400 meter dash was Dan Kurz ’11 (Melrose, Mass. / Melrose) who had a 54.33 race-time and earned a spot to compete in Centennial championships. Chris Swayer ’10 (Millburn, N.J. / Millburn) earned a seventh place finish in the men’s 3,000 meter run in 10:13.19. Freshman Brendan McVeigh (Middlesex, Vt. / U32 High School) vaulted a 3.05 meter in the men’s pole vault while Neel Prakash ’09 (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) threw a personal-best 9.79 meters in the shot put.

The indoor track and field team will be back in action on Friday, February 22 when they travel back to Haverford to compete in the Keogh Invite.
