Basketball Teams are Thinking Pink
SWARTHMORE, PA. -- The Swarthmore College men and women's basketball teams and some 600-plus schools celebrating the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Think Pink" Week February 6-17.
The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the coach’s association to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The 2008 initiative has grown significantly since the 2007 inaugural year of 120 participating teams. Schools participating range from all divisions of NCAA play, NAIA, JC/CC, high school and AAU. The WBCA hopes to take this to professional and AAU/YBOA play over the summer.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Swarthmore women and men’s teams will host a Centennial Conference double header against Dickinson College. Both Garnet and Dickinson teams will wear pink shirts during pre-game warm-ups, showing support toward the initiative. Swarthmore will donate all concession stand earnings to help in the fight against breast cancer.
Swarthmore College athletics teams have been active supporters in the fight against cancer, participating in a variety of fundraising and awareness events in recent years. As part of Swarthmore’s ‘T’s for 3’s’ promotion, pink t-shirts will be given away after each made Swarthmore three-point basket this weekend.
