Centennial Conference Championships
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Garnet cross country teams over came wet conditions at the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall Saturday morning.
The Swarthmore men finished in fifth with 127 points in the 8K run. Haverford captured their 15th straight title win scoring 21 points followed by Dickinson (55), Johns Hopkins (84), Muhlenberg (110), Gettysburg (179), Franklin & Marshall (209), McDaniel (221), and Ursinus (288).
Junior Erik Saka (Quincy, Illin./ Quincy) was the first to finish for Swarthmore in 16th position overall with a finish time of 26:51. Coming in at 22nd Ross Weller '08 (McConnellsburg, Pa./ Mercersburg Academy) clocked in at 27:15. Crossing the line at 27:50, in 30th place was Patrick Harnett '11 (Syracuse, N.Y./ Westhill). Micky Katz '08 (Stevens Point, Wis./ Stevens Point Area) averaged 5:40 miles to finish in 36th place with an overall time of 28:09. Closely behind Katz was freshman runner Alex Frye (Bourbonnais, Illin./ Bishop McNamara) finishing at 28:17.
The Swarthmore women totaled 122 points, placing fourth. The Garnet trailed champion Dickinson (33), Haverford (52), Johns Hopkins (81), but bested Gettysburg (131), Ursinus (185), Muhlenberg (193), Franklin & Marshall (198), Bryn Mawr (252) and McDaniel (293).
Leading the Garnet women was sophomore runner Ashley Davies (New Providence, N.J./ Hunterdon Central) in 13th place at 23:48. Following the race Davies was named to the All-Centennial Conference Second Team for her consistent efforts this season. Finishing together in the 26th and 27th positions were Emma Stanley '09 (Fogelsvill, Pa./ Parkland) and Nyika Corbett '10 (Myrtle Point, Ore./ Myrtle Point) crossed the line one after the other at 24:19. Sophomore runner Lauren Delcuca (Audubon, Pa./ Kennedy-Kendrick) completed the 6K race at 24:58 in 34th place. Swarthmore women's fifth runner to finish was Kathy Feeney '09 (Staatsburg, N.Y./ FDR) finished her race at 25:01.
The Swarthmore runners will prepare for the Mid-East Regional meet, taking place in Bethlehem, Pa. on Nov. 11.
