Haverford, Rain Over Garnet
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Haverford senior Colleen Farrell posted a hat-trick leading the Fords to a 4-0 win over Swarthmore on wet and windy Wednesday afternoon.
During the first half Haverford (7-10, 3-6 CC) scored a lone goal at 23:10 off a penalty corner. Senior Sarah Walker (Wilton, Conn./ Wilton) sent a ball to classmate Colleen Farrell (Pitman, N.J./ Wilmington Friends (N.J.) who blasted in her 17th goal of the season. Haverford led the shot-count during the first half by one.
Entering into the second half, Haverford led the Garnet 1-0.
At 41:31, junior Zoe Lloyd (Southampton, N.Y./ Southampton) took the ball from a Swarthmore defender, hitting the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season. Pushing the Haverford lead to 3-0 at 53:38, Farrell scored her second goal of the game off a pass from freshman Lauren Kemph (St. Louis, Mo./ John Burroughs). Farrell scored again to complete a hat-trick as she ripped one off from the top of the circle with 2:33 remaining on the clock.
Swarthmore freshman goalie Katie Ashmore (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) had six saves while between the posts. Haverford junior Sarah Graves (Wilmington, Del./ Wilmington Friends) recorded her second shutout while posting seven saves while in goal for Haverford.
The Garnet (5-11, 2-7 CC) return home for their final game of the season to celebrate the seniors (forward Abbie Fischer and defender Rachel Turner) when they host Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
