#9 Blue Jays Take Win Over Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - #9 Johns Hopkins (8-1, 4-0 CC) earned a 6-1 win while visiting Clothier Field this evening for a Centennial Conference field hockey game, beating the Swarthmore Garnet (5-5, 2-2 CC).

The Blue Jays were the first to get on the board with 7:21 on the clock. Sophomore forward Gabi Henn (Lambertville, N.J./ South Hunterdon Regional) found her way through heavy traffic to score her 4th goal of the year.

Later in the first half Johns Hopkins scored a pair of back-to-back goals, starting with junior Adair Landy's (Montclair, N.J./ Montclair) unassisted goal at 13:37. Just following at 14:41 Landy sent a pass to senior Lucy Webster (Greenwich, Conn./ Deerfield Academy) for her first goal of the season. Hopkins' Landy posted her sixth goal of the season after she flipped one into the top of the cage in the 20th minute.

Closing the first half the Blue Jays led the Garnet 4-0.

Starting off the second half, Garnet junior Natalie Stone (Philadelphia, Pa./ Friends Select) hit a one-timer in front of the cage at the 36:34 mark. Pushing her career goal total to 14, this was Stone's ninth of the season (a career-high). Blue Jay junior Emily Miller (Garden City, N.Y./ Garden City) notched one in at 39:28 off her own rebound for her eighth goal of the season. In the 42nd minute Henn scored her second goal of the night, making it five-goal led for Hopkins.

The Blue Jays controlled the offensive play out shooting Swarthmore 25-9. Hopkins sophomore goalie Sophia Tieu (Cupertino, Calif./ Cupertino) had four saves. With a busy night in net freshman goalie Katie Ashmore (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) had 10 saves for the Garnet.

The Garnet field hockey returns to Clothier Field this Saturday when they take on Centennial Conference team, Dickinson for a 12:00 p.m. game.
