#10 Blue Jays Swarm Garnet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -Swarthmore men's soccer (4-1-2, 0-1 CC) hosted 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins (7-0, 1-0 CC) on a chilly fall evening at Clothier Field with over 500 people in attendance. The match turned into a 4-0 win for the Blue Jays ,who pushed their win streak to seven games.
At the 21:40 mark, JHU freshman David Drake (Medford, N.J./ Shawnee) drilled an unassisted goal into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead. Blue Jay freshman Scott Elliott (Westlake, Ohio/ Saint Edward) added another JHU score, blasting a ball in the right side of the goal at 44:33.
At half the Blue Jays' held a 2-0 lead.
JHU freshman Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, Pa./ Bourne) assisted Drake's second goal of the night in the eighty-second minute of the match. The final goal was notched at 85:59 off a cross from Evan Giles '10 (Ponte Verde Beach, Fla./ Episcopal), who assisted junior midfielder Akash Naik (Simpsonville, S.C./ Hillcrest).
Hopkins' sophomore goalkeeper Matt Mierley (Weston, Fla./ St. Thomas Aquinas) posted his second shut-out of the season, while net minder Ryan Sutcliffe '08 (Milford, Del./ Milford) had two saves for the Garnet.
The Garnet host Widener on September 19th in their next contest; match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
