Garnet Take Fifth at Glenmaura
MOOSIC, Pa. -- The Swarthmore golf team prepared for the upcoming Centennial Conference Championships by posting a team score of 638, placing fifth out of 12 teams at the par-71, 6339-yard Glenmaura National Golf Course Sunday and Monday.
Susquehanna took top team honors with a 584, followed by Centennial-schools F&M (609) and McDaniel (612). Moravian was fourth with a 633 with Swarthmore, York (647), Muhlenberg (650), King's (656), Elizabethtown (662), Lebanon Valley (667), Scranton (670) and Gettysburg (672) completing the team competition.
Senior Eric Zwick shot an opening-round 74 (including a tidy 34 on the front nine) to sit in a tie for fourth after the first day. Zwick put up an 83 on the second to finish in a tie for 17th with a total score of 157. Sophomore David Lau shot 77-82 to hold 21st place all by himself with a total of 159. Senior Zach Moody battled thru illness to post an 81 on Sunday and an 80 on Monday to finish tied for 23rd with a 161. Jeff Lazarus '10 opened up with a 78 and then followed up with an 83 on Monday to tie Moody at 161. Michael Bernasek '09 rounded out the Garnet entries, posting a 92-86 for a total of 178.
The Garnet hit the links early on Friday morning for the start of the 2007 Centennial Conference Championships at Pilgrim's Oak Golf Course in Peach Bottom, Pa. The tournament is a three-day affair and Swarthmore aims to top its program-best fourth place finish in 2006.
