#14 Swarthmore Topples Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa.  -- The Garnet women's tennis team kept pace in the Centennial Conference, getting two wins apiece from Waverly Lutz '07, Rachel Wallwork '10, and Erica Lukoski '08 on the way to a 6-3 win at Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon.

Swarthmore (7-4 overall, 5-1 CC), currently ranked 14th in all of Division III, sits in third place in the Centennial, trailing #15 Johns Hopkins (7-0) and Franklin & Marshall (7-1).

The Garnet were rolling early against Muhlenberg (, sweeping all three doubles' matches.  Wallwork and Lutz won their fourth straight match (second at No.1 doubles), downing the Mules' Jenn Powell and Pam Kimmelman 8-6 in the top pairing.  Marissa Matthews '07 and Lukoski continued to show strong chemistry, winning at No.2 by a score of 8-3 over Carly Rotfield and Danielle Weiss.  Sara Sargent '07 and Rachel Committo '10, teaming up for the first time this season, completed the sweep with an easy 8-0 win at No.3 over Amanda Clifford and Lesilie Schaffer.

Wallwork won at No. 1 singles for the second time this season.  She battled past Powell 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) increasing her personal win-streak to three in the process.  Lutz and Lukoski cruised at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, failing to drop a set. 

Swarthmore has a full schedule next week, traveling to Haverford on Wed., April 18 at 4:00 p.m. and then will host #28 College of New Jersey on Friday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m.  The weekend slate includes two Centennial road matches; Saturday, April 21 will be at F&M and Sunday's affair will be at McDaniel.
