Medley Relay Leads Garnet at Day One of CC Championships
CENTENNIAL CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Swarthmore men's distance medley relay picked up a bronze medal on the first day of the 2007 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday on the campus of Haverford College.
The Garnet men were in eighth place overall with eight points while the Swarthmore women stood in seventh place with 11 team points. Haverford led both the men's and women's competitions at day's end.
Junior Ross Weller led off the men's medley relay with a 3:12 split, senior Matt Schiller followed with a 51.10 over 400 meters, sophomore Connor Darby ran 2:00 minutes in the 800 meters, and senior Vernon Chaplin clocked in at 4:24 in the mile to bring home the medal.
Both Swarthmore 4x200 relay teams posted season-best times, while the men picked up eighth place to earn a team point. Senior Nat Erb-Satullo continued to run strong times, this time setting a personal-best at 5,000 meters (16:12.29). Garnet women Bess Ritter '09 and Emma Stanley '09 ran fifth and sixth, respectively, at 5,000 meters. Ritter, who qualified with the fastest time in the slower heat, ran strong with a time of 18:53.43, just crossing in front of Stanley who finished with a time of 18:54.11.
Senior Matt Singleton recorded his top height of the season in the pole vault, successfully clearing 12'6" to pick up a point for the team.
Day two of the CC Championships commence tomorrow with the men's 4 x 800 meter relay finals at 10:30 a.m.
