SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore men's team got two individual wins from sophomore Stephen Shymon and several season-best performances to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference dual-meet action, taking down visiting Dickinson 122-82 Saturday afternoon.  The Garnet women also defeated the Red Devils, 109-95, as freshman Anne Miller picked up two more victories on Senior Day in Ware Pool.

Swarthmore head coach Sue Davis led a pre-meet ceremony to honor the ten seniors on the Swarthmore swim team: Jon Augat, Sarah Cotcamp, Sarah Gordon, Michele Hom, Jason Horwitz, Andrew Koczo, Jeff Maxim, Rob McKeon, Veronica Medina, Katie Schmidt, and Janice Yeo

Shymon won his first event, the 1,000 freestyle, in a season-best time of 10:14.92, leading teammate Andrew Frampton '08 to the wall.  Freshman Michael Ann swam a stirring 200 freestyle in the next event, winning in a personal-best time of 1:48.47.  The Swarthmore men took the top three spots in the 200 IM; John Heagy '08 was first with a season-best time of 2:05.56, freshman Kyle Skolfield set a personal-best in second place at 2:08.65, and McKeon posted his season-best in third with a time of 2:09.72. 

Frampton, Brian Roth '09, and McKeon took second, third and fourth in the 200 butterfly while Maxim achieved a personal goal, completing his first collegiate 200 fly.

Ann swam strong in the 100 free, posting a season-best time of 50.01 to just miss winning by .9 seconds.  The Garnet men ruled the 200 backstroke, led by Douglas Gilchrist-Scott '09 who won the event with a personal-best time of 2:02.71.  The 500 freestyle saw Shymon (season-best 4:56.64) and Frampton finish one-two again and Skolfield followed up with a personal-best time (2:18.69) to win the 200 breaststroke.

The women also seem to be peaking at the right time, getting off to a fast start in the 400 medley as Allie Jordan '09, Yeo,  Casey Osborn '10, and Cotcamp combined for the victory in a season-best time of 4:10.04.  Miller picked up her first victory of the day in the 1,000 (11:05.68) while senior Sarah Gordon was second with a time of 11:37.11.  Freshman Julia Wrobel won the 200 freestyle with a season-best of 2:01.09 and Osborn followed up with a victory in the 200 IM (personal-best 2:16.21).

Miller scored victory #2 in the 200 butterfly (season-best 2:12.44) as junior Jennie Lewis and Medina picked up valuable points with second and third place, respectively. Swarthmore was able to pull off the overall victory by picking up valuable points; Cotcamp got nipped in the 50 and 100 freestyle while Yeo and Hom were second and third, respectively in the 200 breaststroke.

The Swarthmore men now stand at 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial (in first place) while the women own a strong 6-3 overall record and 5-1 in the Centennial (tied for first with F&M and Gettysburg).

Both teams will return to Ware Pool on Wednesday, Feb. 7 for the final meet before the Centennial Conference championships.  Swarthmore will host Washington (Md.) at 6:00 p.m.
