#25 McDaniel Runs Past Swarthmore

GAME BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Garnet junior forward Karen Berk put up 23 points and pulled down 15 rebounds against #25 ranked McDaniel but it wasn't enough as Swarthmore fell 80-54 in Tarble Pavilion Saturday afternoon.  The Green Terror's 39 points
from the bench and 60% shooting from the field helped them win their 14th game in a row.

McDaniel's well balanced scoring was led by the senior trio of forward Allison Biggs (12 points), center Theresa Hess (12 points), and guard Katy Powell.  Powell had 10 points to move within six points of 1,000 for her career.

McDaniel (18-2, 12-1 CC) got off to an early lead with high-pressure defense and quick transitions.  At the 6:16 mark in the first half, Swarthmore senior forward Jess Fuhr hit two free throws to cut McDaniel's lead to five but a Green Terror surge spread the margin to 11 at the half.

The Garnet looked for answers to McDaniel's 56% FG shooting in the first half allowing only two points off the fast break in the second.  Despite that McDaniel's hot hands got hotter as they continued to improve their shooting in the second half going 64% from the field.

Garnet sophomore guard Melissa Grigsby had a strong second half for Swarthmore.  She hit a pair of free throws at the 8:13 mark to bring the game back to 10.  The mounting comeback was squelched when Berk missed a layup and commited her 5th foul leaving the game for good.

McDaniel used this opportunity to close the door and go on a 16-0 run with some tough Defense, shooting 8 of 11 from the field in the remaining six minutes.  During that span, McDaniel allowed only one more field goal by the Garnet.

A bright spot for the Garnet was their ability to get to the line and convert shooting 88% as a team--15 for17--free throws for the game.

Berk hit double figures for the 23rd straight game and picked up her 14th double-double of the season.  Grigsby reached double digits for the fourth consecutive game, shooting 4 of 7 for 12 points.

The Swarthmore women (4-16, 1-14 CC) travel to Lincoln University on Tues., Feb. 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game.  The Garnet resume Centennial action on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a 2:00 p.m. game at Gettysburg.
