Swarthmore Tennis Teams Ranked Nationally

FILA DIVISION III COLLEGIATE TENNIS FALL RANKINGS

The Swarthmore tennis programs received recognition for both the men and the women in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) FILA Fall Rankings, released on November 22. The Garnet women were ranked 19th in all of Division III and the Swarthmore men were placed 23rd.

In addition to the national ranking, the Garnet women were placed sixth in the Atlantic South Region. Swarthmore, the two-time defending Centennial Conference champion, had one of the more successful falls in recent memory.  The Swarthmore doubles team of Sonya Reynolds '07 and Sara Sargent '07 claimed the championship at the ITA Regional Tournament in September, earning All-American honors.  The pair traveled to the ITA Nationals in October and took sixth place, defeating the team from Claremont-Mudd Scripps along the way.  Reynolds and Sargent are ranked second in the Atlantic South region for doubles teams, while teammates Waverly Lutz '07 and Rachel Wallwork '10 are listed 18th.  Reynolds is listed sixth in the region in the singles' rankings while Wallwork is ranked 36th.

The Garnet men also put up a strong performance at the ITA Fall Regional, as senior Jon Reiss reached the quarterfinals of the main singles draw and sophomore Marc Greenberg advanced to the quarterfinals of consolation bracket.  Swarthmore is also ranked sixth in the Atlantic South Region, and saw Reiss earn the 11th individual singles ranking in the region.

Both Swarthmore tennis teams open up the spring portion of their schedules in February.  The men host Temple on Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. while the women open up with New York University on Feb. 24 at 12:00 p.m.
