Garnet Run Third at DeSales Invite
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Swarthmore senior Vernon Chaplin and junior Ross Weller ran in the top ten at the 8K DeSales Invitational on Saturday morning in the final tune-up for the Garnet before the Centennial Conference Championship Meet.
Swarthmore finished in third as a team, putting five runners in the top 50, collecting 96 points to finish behind Muhlenberg (45 pts.) and Salisbury (61 pts.).
Chaplin ran third out of 191 competitors, finishing just 14 seconds behind winner Alexis Mercado from Muhlenberg. Chaplin completed the course in a time of 26:44.76 and Weller followed close behind in seventh place with a time of 27:05.19.
Sophomore Erik Saka was the next Garnet runner to cross, finishing 12th in a time of 27:24.97. Dan Hodgson '09 ran 35th with a time of 28:15.11 while Nat Erb-Satullo '07 hit for 44th with a time of 28:36.70.
The Garnet will train through the next week for the Centennial Championship Meet on Sat., Oct. 28. The race will be run in Carlisle, Pa. with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
