Women’s Tennis: #18 Garnet Attain Perfection, Again

COMPLETE RESULTS

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Garnet (14-2, 10-0 CC) put on a show in their final regular season match against resilient foe Haverford, downing the Fords 7-2 to complete a second consecutive perfect Conference schedule.

The Fords put up a good fight during the doubles, but was no match for the Garnet during the singles, as Swarthmore rolled to its 11th straight win and 28th Centennial victory in a row.

Senior Oriana Galardi-Este earned both singles and doubles wins to mark the end of her regular season tennis career at Swarthmore.

Junior duo Sonya Reynolds and Marissa Matthews received quite the challenge from Fords tandem Scherb and Glickman at the No. 1 flight. The tandem forced Matthews and Reynolds into a tight tiebreaker. Matthews did everything she needed to in order to close out the match 9-8 (5).

Reynolds went on to play No. 1 singles and defeated the Fords' Laura Chaddock 6-1, 6-2.

No. 3 doubles pair Galardi-Este and Jamie Midyette's '08 ability to bounce back from a lost point gave them the edge they needed to beat Haverford's Sarah Loeffler and Kapadia 9-7. Galardi-Este, going on to play at No. 6 singles, dominated Sarita Kapadia, 6-1, 6-1.

Senior Emily Townsend rebounded from her doubles loss to finish off Loeffler 6-0, 6-4 at No.3.

On April 29-30 the top-seeded Garnet will host the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships on Faulkner Courts. The Garnet will first face Johns Hopkins in the semifinals, taking the first step towards winning the first conference title in the new team format.
