Women’s Lacrosse: #13 Dickinson Washes Away Garnet
SWARTHMORE, PA - Dickinson's Amy Jennings and Lesley Oot each collected hat tricks as the 13th-ranked Red Devils went on to win 12-4 in Centennial Conference action on a cold and rainy Clothier Field Saturday afternoon.
Dickinson (10-1 overall, 4-1 CC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on before Swarthmore midfielder Katie Crawford '07 put Swarthmore on the scoreboard with her 22nd goal of the season. Following another Dickinson goal, Garnet freshman midfielder Anna de Regt added her 19th goal of the season to bring Swarthmore to within one. Dickinson scored one more goal before the half ended and the game went to halftime with the Red Devils ahead 4-2.
Dickinson opened the second half with five unanswered goals and never looked back. Crawford scored her second goal of the game and 23rd of the season (a team-high) with 19:46 remaining in the game, followed shortly thereafter by a goal by midfielder Niamh Shortt '06, her 22nd of the year. The Garnet fell short in their attempt to stage another comeback as Dickinson ended the game with three consecutive goals.
The Red Devils were called for 37 fouls throughout the game, while Swarthmore was charged with only eight. Dickinson also ruled the center circle, with a 13-5 advantage in draw controls.
Nine different Red Devils registered points in the contest, compared to five for the Garnet.
Megan Sanborn '08 and Lindsay Roth '07 each had one assist for Swarthmore. Sophomore Susannah Blair recorded 10 saves in goal.
Garnet defenders Chloe Lewis '06 and Melissa Grigsby '09 each forced four turnovers, while junior defender Paige Gentry collected a team-high nine ground balls.
Swarthmore (10-3, 2-3 CC) will look to return to their winning ways Tuesday night when they take on Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference play, 7:00 on Clothier Field.
