Women’s Tennis: Regals Bow Down to Garnet
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Swarthmore swept three doubles matches on its way to a 6-3 win over the #21 Cal-Lutheran Regals.
Juniors Sonya Reynolds and Marissa Matthews continued their recent dominant play with an 8-0 win over Bri Smalling and Michelle Sekyua at #1 doubles. Fellow juniors Sara Sargent and Waverly Lutz eased past Suz Nomura and Blair Murphy, 8-5, and seniors Emily Townsend and Jenna Adelberg took care of Amy Vogt and Victoria Ybarra, 8-2.
Reynolds rebounded from her first loss of the season on Saturday to defeat Smalling (ranked eight in the West region) 6-4, 6-3 at #1 singles. Lutz and Sargent cleaned up at the bottom of the singles lineup, defeating Vogt and Ybarra, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Park fell to Sekyua at #2, 7-5, 6-2, #3 Matthews dropped a 7-5, 6-3 match to Nomura, and Townsend split two sets with Murphy at #4 before falling in a super set; the final tally was 7-6 (3), 3-6, (10-6) in Murphy's favor.
Swarthmore improves to 4-2 on the season with the win and now enters the meat of the Centennial Conference season. Next up for the Garnet is Saturday's 1:00 match at Gettysburg.
