Zhang Wins Twice, Bullets Overcome Garnet
Franny Zhang '08 came out on top Saturday afternoon, winning two races in dramatic fashion. Unfortunately, her performance wasn't enough to put Swarthmore (5-4, 3-2 CC) ahead of Gettysburg, as the Bullets claimed victory 141-64.
In a similar fashion as the past few meets, the Garnet women seized the first event, right off the bat. That 400 yard medley relay victory can be attributed to Martyna Pospiezalska '06, Michele Hom '07, Jennie Lewis '08, and Sarah Cotcamp '07. Their individual efforts combined to rake in the first victory with a time of 4:11.51.
Next, Zhang went on to take the 200 yard IM (2:14.44), edging out Gettysburg's Roxy Hernandez (2:14.66). Initially trailing, she took the 100 yard freestyle (55.77) as well, right out of the hands of Gettysburg's Emily Youmans.
Swarthmore will be on the road for the rest of the season, facing Centennial opponents. Their next stop will be Carlisle, Pa, where the Garnet will go head to head with the Dickinson Red Devils next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
