#16 Generals March Over Garnet
The nationally ranked Washington and Lee Generals defeated the Garnet men (2-5, 2-1 CC) Saturday afternoon 178-83. Andrew Koczo '07 was a key contributer for Swarthmore, winning an individual event and contributing to a relay victory.
The Garnet men looked like they were off to a great start, Douglas Gilchrist-Scott '09, Koczo, Jason Horwitz '07, and Jonathan Augat '07 joining forces to win the 200 yard medley. Their early efforts allowed them to slow down in the end, and still take first in 1:42.64, with a second to spare.
By the second event, the Garnet were the ones trailing, Stephen Shymon '09 took a close second in the 1000 yard freestyle, after exchanging first place numerous times with Washington and Lee's Clark Barrineau. By the fifth event, Koczo managed to rack in a win, stealing first with a time of 1:04.30.
The Garnet men's next meet is on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. Swarthmore will host Centennial rival Gettysburg at Ware Pool.
