Garnet Stone Owls
Freshman Natalie Stone and junior Summer Spicer scored two goals as Swarthmore defeated Bryn Mawr 9-0 in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Clothier Field.
The last time a Garnet squad scored at least nine goals occured on September 20, 1994 when Swarthmore handed Bryn Mawr a 13-1 defeat. Current head coach Kelly Wilcox '97 was a sophomore defender on that squad, recording three assists in the victory.
Swarthmore (5-3, 1-1 CC) got goals from Charlotte MacAusland '06, Spicer, Neema Patel '07, and Lindsay Roth '07 to take a 4-0 lead into halftime on this cool afternoon.
Spicer put her second goal in the cage at 45:03, blasting the ball from the top of the circle for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Stone slipped her first goal past Owls goalie Rachel Brady at 47:56; it was the first score of Stone's collegiate career.
The freshman spread the wealth on the next Garnet score, tipping a cross from Ashley Gunter '09 to Madalyn Baldanzi '08, who put home her first score of the season at 53:10. Stone tallied her second score at 58:14, cleaning up a rebound off a shot from Heidi Fieselmann '06.
Alex Clegg '08 finished the Garnet scoring with her second goal of the season at 65:40.
Swarthmore goalie Melissa LaVan '07 made one save in goal for her first shut out of 2005. Brady made seven saves as Bryn Mawr dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial.
The Garnet resume Centennial play when they travel to Carlisle, Pa. for a match with Dickinson on October 1st. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
