Women’s Tennis: Garnet Tandem Rolls at Swat Invite

The doubles' pair of Sonya Reynolds '07 and Marissa Matthews '07 won twice to advance out of Flight A at the first day of competition in the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet are hosting Centennial foe Johns Hopkins and the University of Delaware for the two-day tournament, which will continue on Sunday morning.

Reynolds and Matthews, Centennial Conference finalists last spring, defeated Delaware's Shari Shuster and Dragonette 8-6 in the first round, and then rolled over the Blue Jays' Meghan Hasenauer and Jill Seidman 8-2 in the round two.  Emily Townsend '07 and Jenna Adelberg '06 also won their first round pairing, defeating Tammy Tran and Caitlin Carlberg from Johns Hopkins 8-1.

The Garnet had multiple winners in singles' action in round one action.  Reynolds defeated Becky Busch from Johns Hopkins 6-0, 6-2; Jennie Park '09 downed Hasenhauer 6-2, 6-1; Erica Lukoski '08 defeated Stephanie Carr from Johns Hopkins 6-1, 6-2; Jamie Midyette '08 won 6-4, 6-0 over Julie Schiller from Delaware; and Lee easily beat Carlberg from Johns Hopkins 6-0, 6-0.

The second round results were not as bright for the Garnet, as only a pair of Swarthmore players pulled out wins.  Anjali Aggarwal defeated Carlberg 6-4, 6-2 and Townsend downed Hasenauer 6-0, 6-1.

The tournament resumes on Sunday morning at the Faulkner Courts located on the campus of Swarthmore College.
