The Chaplin Revue A Favorite at U. Delaware
Garrett Ash '05 won the 5,000 meter race in his Division and Vernon Chaplin '07 continued to post lower times at 800 meters, joining three other Garnet teammates in running personal-bests at the Delaware Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware.
Ash got the Garnet off to a great start at the Invite, out running nine other runners from Division II and III schools to win the 5,000 meter run on Friday night. Ash's time of 15:34.02 would have put him in third place among the Division I athletes.
Chaplin finished third in 800 meter race for Division II and III athletes, only a second behind winner Tristan Gilbert of Salisbury. Teammate Paul Thibodeau '06 ran a very strong 800, finishing eighth out of 34 runners, in a time of 2:01.27
Chaplin's time of 1:55.26 bettered his personal best of 1:55.90. already the second fastest time in school history. Dave Graham owns the top time, running 1:54.45 in 1991.
Jon Shoop '08 and Duncan Gromko '07 ran rather well in the 1500 meter race, finishing 10th (4:16.12) and 12th (4:17.38), respectively, while establishing personal bests.
Ross Weller '08 kept up the momentum from his strong run at the Danny Curran Invitational, posting a personal best in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:05.33), finishing fourth in the process.
The Garnet men travel to Widener University for their next competition on April 16th. The Widener Invite will start at 10:00 a.m.
