Garnet 3rd After First Day Lewis Sets School Mark

With five events in the books, the Garnet are in third place with 184.5 points in the three day Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. The host Diplomats lead the pack with 221 points and Gettysburg is in second a point ahead of Swarthmore.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Franny Zhang '08, Kathryn Jantz '05, Sarah Cotcamp '07 and Jennie Lewis '08 got the Garnet off to a fast start by winning the first event of the Championship in a time of 1:40.20. Katherine Reid '05, the first seed after the trials, followed with a second place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:16.17 and Whitney Nekoba '08 finished in fifth place in 5:19.47.

Melanie Johncilla '05 finished in fifth place in the 200IM in 2:14.75 and Lewis captured a bronze medal in the 50 freestyle in 24.95. Earlier in the day, Lewis set the school record in the event with a time of 24.79 to earn the top seed in the trials.

The 400 medley relay team of Martyna Pospieszalska '06 Michele Hom '07, Lewis, and Cotcamp placed fourth in 4:06.84 to close out the evening's events.

Trials in the 400IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke get underway tomorrow at 10:30.
