Swarthmore Rolls Shorewomen on Senior Night
Whitney Nekoba '08 was a triple-winner while Jennie Lewis '08 and Sarah Cotcamp '07 won twice as the Garnet swimmers defeated Washington College 123-82 in Ware Pool on Wednesday night.
Washington opened the meet by stealing the 400 yard medley relay from the Garnet in a time of 4:10.22. Nekoba and senior Katherine Reid got the Garnet rolling, taking first and second in the 1000 yard relay with times of 11:07.69 and 11:18.38, respectively.
Swarthmore continued to accumulate the points, taking the top four positions in the 200 yard free. Lewis led her teammates home in a time of 2:00.66, followed by Melanie Johncilla '05, Patricia Funk '06, and Maila Sepri '05.
The Garnet swept the next event, the 50 yard free, as Cotcamp (25.66), Kathryn Jantz '05, and Michelle Hom '07 kept the Shorewomen from scoring.
Washington recovered some necessary points, as Allison Simons won both the 200 yard IM and the 200 yard butterfly.
Lewis brought the Garnet back to life, winning her second race, the 100 yard free in a time of 55.04. Teammates Johncilla and Cotcamp finished right behind to complete the sweep.
The Shorewomen won the 200 yard backstroke, but Nekoba (5:25.64) and Reid combined again to claim the top to spots, this time in the 500 free.
Washington claimed victory in the 200 yard breaststroke before the Garnet closed out their final home meet of 2004-05 by winning the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:44.83. The team of Franny Zhang '08, Cotcamp, Reid, and Nekoba combined to ensure Swarthmore their fourth victory in five meets.
The Garnet move to 7-4 overall, 5-2 in the Centennial Conference, and being preparation for the Conference Championship meet on February 18th.
