Bullets Gun Down Garnet
Mark Rohde '07 posted a double-double with a season-high 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to lead three Garnet players in double-figures but Swarthmore (2-12, 1-6) fell to Gettysburg (8-6, 5-2) 57-51 in Centennial Conference action at Tarble Pavilion. David Glaser led the Bullets with a game-high 16 points and Matt Whelan added 15.
Gettysburg jumped out to a 35-25 halftime lead and built a 50-35 advantage with 12:22 remaining in the game. The Garnet did not quit as the defense held the Bullets scoreless for an 8:17 stretch to get back into the game. Swarthmore used a 16-5 run to close to within 55-51 on a Rohde jumper with 14 seconds left.
Ryan Page then hit two free throws with 10 seconds left to ice the game for Gettysburg.
A tough double-team by the Bullet defense held Matt Gustafson '05 to just nine points in the game. The senior has 1,549 points and is now 15 shy of passing Scott Gibbons '92 as Swarthmore men's basketball's all-time leading scorer.
Ian McCormick '08 and Dillon McGrew '07 each added 10 points for the Garnet.
The Garnet travel to Muhlenberg on Wednesday for an 8:00 p.m. Centennial Conference contest.
