Dips Outlast Tide
Dana Johns scored a game-high 21 points and recorded seven steals to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 57-45 victory over Swarthmore in Lancaster, Pa. on Tuesday night.
Johns helped the Diplomats take a 30-23 halftime lead by sinking two of F&M's five first-half three-pointers. The senior point guard led the Diplomats in applying pressure to the Garnet backcourt, forcing 15 Swarthmore turnovers.
The second half opened with the Garnet using a 13-5 run to get back into the contest. Karen Berk '08 gave the Garnet their only lead of the night by sinking a 15-foot jump shot with 12:20 remaining in the game.
F&M (4-8, 3-4 CC) answered with a run of their own, using the next ten minutes to build a 47-42 lead. The Garnet were unable to answer on consecutive possessions, and the Diplomats sank multiple free throws to ice the game.
Jessica Fuhr '07 led Swarthmore with ten points and five rebounds, while Ali Wolff '05 added nine points and five boards. Berk, in her first collegiate start, had a team-high nine rebounds as the Garnet fell to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the Centennial Conference.
Swarthmore welcomes cross-town rival Bryn Mawr to Tarble Pavilion on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
