Technology Training

ITS has recently purchased an on-line service, Atomic Learning, which provides technology training to faculty, staff and students at Swarthmore. Atomic Learning provides an extensive library of short, easy-to-understand tutorials. You can learn how to use the features of a number of software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Just type your question into the search field and Atomic Learning will guide you through the application. ITS Welcomes Gayle Barton, our new CITO

ITS is pleased to welcome, Gayle Barton our new Director of Information Technology Services. On November 16, 2007, Connie Hungerford, Provost made the following announcement to the College Community: I am happy to announce that Gayle R. Barton will become Swarthmore’s new Director of Information Technology Services. Gayle earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College, majoring in Economics, and then a Master of Education from St. Lawrence University. ITS welcomes Barbara McKinnon

ITS is happy to announce Barbara McKinnon has joined the Client Servcices Team. Barbara comes to us from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing and has recently completed her Microsoft Certification as a Desktop Support Technician and Microsoft Certified Professional. Barbara recently served as the Vice President of Programs for the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Help desk Institute. Barbara has over 10 years of IT experience including support of; desktops, laptops, mobile devices, classrooms and computer labs. The suite of popular Bb web authoring tools has been upgraded in several small, but useful, ways. Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts are all flexible tools for communication and group collaborations. Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Phishing Emails

On occasion, Swarthmore College email users are subjected to focused phishing attacks appearing to originate from the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union. Phishing involves sending a bogus email, appearing to originate from a legitimate source, which attempts to get the recipient to click on a malicious URL. Phishing emails typically try to steal a user’s logon credentials, or other private information, by getting them to enter information into a malicious site that can look exactly like the authentic site. These emails rely on social engineering to mislead, cause panic, and/or coerce the user into thinking the email is legitimate.
