Playoff Hopes Dashed as Garnet Fall to Washington College 73-64

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Down 18 points in the second half, the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team (5-16, 4-10) mounted a furious rally get to within six points of visiting Washington College (11-8, 9-6) with under three minutes to play, but two big baskets from Washington’s Kevin Breslin – who scored a career-high 31 points – halted the rally and helped the Shoremen hang on for the 73-64 victory over the Garnet on Friday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

Home Basketball vs Washington College Postponed Until Friday

The second major snow storm to hit the Mid-Atlantic in less than five days has forced the postponement of tonight’s scheduled home basketball doubleheader versus Washington College. The games will now be played on Friday, February 12 (6:00 p.m./8:00 p.m.) The postponement is the fourth for the Swat basketball teams in the last week.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – For a third time, winter weather has postponed Swarthmore’s scheduled men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader versus Johns Hopkins. Tonight’s scheduled games have been moved yet again – this time to Monday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. from Tarble Pavilion.

Winter Weather Alters Swat Basketball Yet Again; Home Games vs Johns Hopkins Moved to Monday

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The major snowstorm that dumped over two feet of snow across the Mid-Atlantic has postponed Sunday’s home basketball games versus Johns Hopkins for a second time. The games – originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but moved to Sunday because of the storm – will now take place on Monday, February 8th. The women’s game will begin at 6:00 p.m. from Tarble Pavilion, with the men’s game taking place at 8:00 p.m.

Old Man Winter Hits Swarthmore Athletics; Basketball, Swimming, Track All Postponed to Sunday

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The major snow storm that is expected to hit the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday and has forced the postponement of several Swarthmore College athletic events. Both of the home men’s and women’s basketball games against Johns Hopkins have been postponed until Sunday, February 7th, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The men’s and women’s swimming meet at Dickinson (2:00 p.m.) and the men’s and women’s track meet at Haverford (11:00 a.m.) have also been postponed until Sunday.

Mules Wear Down Garnet 64-50

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The dynamic duo of freshman Will Gates and senior captain Matt Allen combined for 38 of Swarthmore’s 50 points, but it wasn’t enough to combat an outstanding performance from Muhlenberg sophomore forward Spencer Liddic, who dominated the paint with 24 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Mules (11-8, 9-3) past the visiting Garnet 64-50 on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference action.

Gates and Allen combined to connect on seven three-pointers to keep Swat (5-15, 4-9) in the game until the final whistle, but it was the Garnet’s shooting from inside the arc – just 13-of-41 for the game – that was the difference in the Mule victory.

No. 17 Franklin & Marshall Too Much for Garnet, 77-47

LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 17 Franklin & Marshall saw four different players reach double-figures and its defense stymie Swarthmore’s (5-14, 4-8) offense all game long, as the Diplomats (16-3, 10-2) dominated the Garnet 77-47 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

Freshman Will Gates scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds while freshman Sean Conroe scored a career-high seven points for the Garnet, who saw their two-game winning streak snapped by the Diplomats.
