Garnet Prepare for Centennials With Strong Showing at Lions Invitational


EWING, N.J. - With just one week to go until the 2010 Centennial Conference Track & Field Championships from Swarthmore College, sophomore Kenyetta Givans - a two-time gold medalist at the Indoor Championships - showed that she is once again going to be a force to be reckoned with, as she earned fifth-place finish in the women's 100 meter hurdles (15.68) and 11th place finish in the women's 100 meter dash (13.08) to lead the Swat track & field teams at the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Givans took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.

Givans' time in the 100 meter hurdles ranks as the second best time in the Centennial Conference this season and ties  Ramona O'Halloran (1986) on Swat All-Time Performance List, while her time in the 100 meter dash is the sixth best and qualifies her for the Championships in the event.


Along with Givans, several other members of the Garnet had strong showings at the event.

Sophomore Margret Lenfest finished sixth in the steeplechase and qualified for Centennials with a time of 12:17.51, good for the sixth-best Centennial time of the year and second best time in Swarthmore history.

In the women's 800 meter run, sophomore Hannah Rose finished in a time of 2:40.85 - which qualifies her for the CC Championship.

Sophomore Kathryn Gonzalez took 18th in the women's 1500 run with a personal-best time of  5:02.19

In the women's 400 hurdles, freshman Mariam Vonderheide took 18th with a time of 1:12.01, just outside of the Centennial Top 10.


100 m dash

In the men's 400 meter hurdles, junior Chris Mayer-Bacon turned in the fourth-fastest

Bacon was 17th in the men's 400m hurdles.

Centennial time of the season, finishing with a time of 58.00.

Sophomore Daniel Ly had an impressive day heading into Centennials, running a 12.12 in 100 meter dash while in the long jump, he earned a top 15 finish with a season-best leap of 6.06m.

In the men's 800 meter, freshman Brian King crossed the finish line in a time of 1:59.29, just missing a Centennial Top 10 time.

Fellow freshmen John McMinn (4:06.99) and Aidan DuMont-McCaffery  4:13.40) both qualified for the CC Championship in the men's 1500 run.

In the steeplechase, senior Andrew Van Buren took eighth with a time of 10:40.69 - good enough to qualify for the Centennial Conference championships.

In the men's 400 meter dash, junior Dan Kurz  (25th, 53.73) qualified for CC Championships.

The Garnet return to action with the Centennial Conference Championships from Swarthmore beginning on Friday.
