Google Chrome – a nice complement for browsing

ITS tested Google Chrome on several of our swat online services, and found that many swat services function properly. Chrome is packed with many features that are easy to use including navigation and search history. If you are interested in road testing Google Chrome, feel free to download it; but keep in mind, Chrome is still in beta, and is not as mature as your current College supported browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox). Microsoft Office Overview

ITS is offering an overview of Microsoft Office 2007 to individuals or offices ready to upgrade. The overview will be held each Wednesday at 1:30 PM in Trotter 201 through August 8th. This summer, Office 2007 will be installed on all Windows Systems being upgraded, all computer classrooms and public area systems used by students. Office 2007 for Windows features newly designed menus and toolbars and new file formats. This overview of Office 2007 provides a brief explanation of the new product. Academic Tech Fair – Highlights

The Spring 2008 Academic Technology Fair had something for everyone, especially our three iPod raffle winners. Crowds gathered throughout the day at our eight tables filled with gadgets, widgets and multimedia displays. Lots of interesting conversations came up as faculty and staff shared their ideas and experiences with technology for teaching, research and collaboration. Congratulations to the three winners of the iPod Shuffle raffle! ITS Welcomes Gayle Barton, our new CITO

ITS is pleased to welcome, Gayle Barton our new Director of Information Technology Services. On November 16, 2007, Connie Hungerford, Provost made the following announcement to the College Community: I am happy to announce that Gayle R. Barton will become Swarthmore’s new Director of Information Technology Services. Gayle earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College, majoring in Economics, and then a Master of Education from St. Lawrence University. ITS welcomes Barbara McKinnon

ITS is happy to announce Barbara McKinnon has joined the Client Servcices Team. Barbara comes to us from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing and has recently completed her Microsoft Certification as a Desktop Support Technician and Microsoft Certified Professional. Barbara recently served as the Vice President of Programs for the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Help desk Institute. Barbara has over 10 years of IT experience including support of; desktops, laptops, mobile devices, classrooms and computer labs.
