ITS Welcomes Gayle Barton, our new CITO

ITS is pleased to welcome, Gayle Barton our new Director of Information Technology Services. On November 16, 2007, Connie Hungerford, Provost made the following announcement to the College Community:

I am happy to announce that Gayle R. Barton will become Swarthmore’s new Director of Information Technology Services. Gayle earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College, majoring in Economics, and then a Master of Education from St. Lawrence University. She comes to us from Williams College, where she has been Director of Instructional Technology for the past seven years. Previous experience includes twelve years as director of academic computing and then systems design administrator at St. Lawrence.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the search committee – Tom Stephenson, Chair, and Eric Christiansen ’08, Armando Leon ’09, Steve O’Connell, Patricia Reilly, Martin Warner, and Melanie Young – for their long hours and thorough and thoughtful work. Thanks too to the many who met with our two superb finalists and offered their comments.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Gayle warmly to our community in January.
