ITS cautions against upgrading to macOS Sierra

Apple has just released its newest macOS Sierra operating system, and made it available as an automatic download to customers running OS X El Capitan in order to encourage them to update. If you have a Swarthmore issued computer, do not allow Sierra to install. Upgrading the operating system can break certain features, including the ability to log in with your Swarthmore account. If you need your Mac operating system upgraded, in order to use a feature that is currently unavailable, contact the Help Desk in Beardsley 110. Lynda.com, in 3D

We recently heard from one of the nearly 700 of you who are already using lynda.swarthmore.edu to help you learn on your own schedule.  Brady White ’15 has been using Lynda.com videos to help learn how to use SolidWorks 2014, a program that allows you to design objects to be printed on a 3D printer. Brady reports that the selectable table of contents, the 10-second-rewind button, and the ease of following along with the video are his favorite parts of using the software. ITS welcomes Oliver Hollocher-Small to the Client Services team

The Client Services team belatedly welcomes Oliver Hollocher-Small to the team!  Oliver joined us on July 29 and brought along a jack-of-all-trades set of troubleshooting abilities to complement his contagious smile (not pictured). A Philadelphia native, Oliver is also interested in road and mountain biking, tree-climbing (he was an arborist for ten years!), and motorcycles.  We are delighted to have Oliver as a member of the Swarthmore community. ITS welcomes Joel F. W. Price ’00 to the Client Services team

The next time you visit the garden level of Beardsley, you might see an old/new face.  On November 26, Joel F. W. Price ’00 returned to Swarthmore to join the Client Services team in ITS as the Technology Education Coordinator.  He looks forward to helping people use technology in a way that helps them do their work better.
