The Media Services team in ITS has been busy making improvements to classrooms this summer. In addition to our usual upgrades to projectors and lectern computers, we’re announcing a few major new services that will be of interest to many of you. AirMedia wireless projection For years, we’ve dreamed of being able to project while moving around the classroom with a tablet or laptop. Finally, the technologies to make this possible are arriving. Introducing Zoom video conferencing

Over the past few years, Media Services has seen a boom in requests for support for web-based video and audio conferencing services (such as Skype, Google Hangouts, WebEx, and GoToMeeting.) While these tools are handy, we haven’t always been satisfied with their quality or ease of use. Starting immediately, all Swarthmore faculty, staff, and students have a basic Zoom account— just go to http://swarthmore.zoom.us. Sign in with your Swarthmore College username and password. You can use Zoom to have an audio or video chat with anybody else, but you can invite up to two dozen people into a meeting. Ashley Turner joins Media Services

We’re pleased to welcome Ashley Turner to the Media Services group. Her colleagues, Michael Patterson, Dave Neal, and Mike Bednarz, are renowned on campus for their helpfulness. Unfortunately, we’d come to the point where the event and course needs of the campus required a level of support from them that often exceeded the merely heroic. Ashley joined us as a Media Services Specialist in August and has already become an indispensable member of the team. New HD Classrooms

Over the past two summers, Media Services has upgraded a number of classrooms, seminar rooms, and lecture halls to high definition projection A/V systems. What this means is that you will now be able to show your laptop presentations in high definition and wide screen. The installed classroom computers and disc players will project in high definition. Not all of the classrooms have this capability.  We have compiled a list of rooms that we call HD Digital Media A/V projection systems. New Equipment in Media Services Lets You Bring the Studio Anywhere

Easily transportable audio recording devices have been a staple of Media Services equipment rentals for years. Now , with the addition of some new accessories, Swarthmore College community members can take the studio environment on location as well. Our new modular sound booth from Auralex is lightweight, and can be easily constructed in almost any space. This sound booth is ideal for recording voice-overs, but could easily be used for recording instrumentation as well.
