Digital Storytelling project for Natural Science and Engineering summer research students

This summer ITS will be facilitating a Digital Storytelling project for Natural Science and Engineering summer research students.  For the past few years, Swarthmore has provided faculty with a chance to develop a narrative using images, sound, video and other digital media.  We are pleased to offer a modified version for Swarthmore research students in which the emphasis will be on the research experience.

Students will develop a 2-3 minute video in which they could:
  • Succinctly explain their research project
  • Describe their field of research and why their work is important
  • Reflect on their summer experience and what they have learned
Students will meet with ITS facilitators for 90 minutes several times throughout the summer to conduct the process of writing their narrative, assembling images and recording audio, and assembling the components into a final product.
The benefit to the faculty will be having students that are more engaged with reflecting on their work, able to explain their projects clearly, and possibly a video that could be used to promote their research or share with potential summer research students in the future.
