Chester 101

Chester 101 is an introduction to the people, the history and the journey that has shaped the city’s current reality.

The Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility at Swarthmore College, in partnership with the Chester Swarthmore Leadership Institute, has developed this comprehensive orientation program to the City of Chester.

Chester 101 is an introduction to the people, the history and the journey that has shaped the city’s current reality.

The purpose of Chester 101 is to expose students, faculty and staff who will enter Chester as part of CBL courses or as a community service volunteer to the diverse community issues that impact the lives of Chester residents.

The goal of civic engagement — supported by Chester 101–is to promote the mutual transformation of Swarthmore volunteers and Chester community partners alike. It enables Swarthmore students and others to develop and build respectful relationships with those in the community.

The event is hosted by a local faith based organization and includes a panel discussion with community representatives, video, tour and related handouts.
