ITS Announcement 10/14/08: Network & Telephone Service Interruptions This Week

Taking advantage of the break, ITS will be performing maintenance work on network equipment and telephone servers. Some of this work will require interruptions in service. Below is a list of planned outages: Wed, Noon – 1 PM: There will be a 15-20 minute period when access to saved voicemail messages will be interrupted. New voicemail messages will continue to be accepted during this time. Thur, 6 PM – Midnight: Campus network and Internet access during this period will be interrupted 3-4 times for periods up to 20-30 minutes while we upgrade software and reconfigure network equipment. Speed Dial Setup for Cisco Phones

ITS has made available to Cisco phone users a web-based service that supports the setting of Speed Dial and Abbreviated Dial numbers.  A total of 100 speed dial and abbreviated dial numbers are available per phone.  For additional details and to access the service, point your browser to www.swarthmore.edu/phones.  Select the category Cisco Phones from the left window.  Links will appear at the top of the main window. Brief Late Night Network/Phone Outages

A number of short, late night network maintenance activities will occur in conjunction with Fall break. On Friday, October 5 at 11:30 PM there will be a 10-20 minute outage of network, phones and wireless in the following buildings: Robinson House, Lang Music and Dana. On Friday, October 12 at 11:30 PM there will be a 10-20 minute outage of network, phones and wireless in the following buildings: Parrish, Ben West and Beardsley. Also on the 12th, there will be a few 5-10 minute Internet outages between 10 PM and Midnight effecting all buildings. How do I transfer a call on my Cisco phone?

I’ve had a new Cisco phone on my desk for over a year but didn’t learn how to transfer a phone call until today. It’s simple: While on the call, press the soft key “Transfer.” (Soft keys are the small buttons that appear at the bottom of the screen.) Next, dial the number to which you would like to transfer the call. Finally, press “Transfer” button again. That’s it; you’re done.
