ITS has introduced a new Moodle feature that assigns students and community members who are auditing a course the Auditor role. This role does not include a gradebook entry, making it easier for instructors to quickly distinguish between students taking a course for a grade and those auditing.
Students officially enrolled as auditors through the Registrar’s Office will now automatically appear in Moodle with the Auditor role. Previously, auditors were assigned the standard Registered Student role, which made them indistinguishable from graded students in the course roster and gradebook.
Need to assign grades to an auditor?
If an auditing student requires a gradebook entry, instructors can manually assign the Student role in addition to the Auditor role. Instructions are available on our help page on Modifying Users and Changing Roles.
As with all official enrollments managed by the Registrar’s Office, auditors must be unenrolled through the Registrar, not directly in Moodle.
