For many years, ITS has hosted an RStudio Server to support faculty and students in running R code directly from web browsers. This platform has enabled easy access to RStudio from any device.
Over the next few months, we will be migrating our RStudio Server users to Posit Cloud, the web-based version of RStudio developed by Posit (formerly known as RStudio). This transition brings enhanced features and improved collaboration tools to enrich your R programming experience.
Why Switch to Posit Cloud?
Posit Cloud offers several advantages over the traditional RStudio Server:
Enhanced Teaching Collaboration Features
- Assignment Templates: Professors can create assignment templates that students can copy and use for their homework.
- Shared Workspaces: Within a class, students can grant professors access to view and comment on their files, facilitating better support and feedback.
- Role Management: Professors can add TAs or graders to class spaces, streamlining the grading and assistance process.
- Real-Time Editing: Posit Cloud supports real-time, collaborative editing of R files.
Simplified Project Sharing
- Research Collaboration: Faculty can create dedicated spaces for research projects and share them with student research assistants.
- Easy Sharing: Users can create projects and share them, enhancing teamwork and knowledge sharings.
Automatic Updates and Maintenance
- Up-to-Date Software: Posit Cloud is automatically updated with the latest versions of R and R packages, ensuring you always have access to the most recent tools and features.
- Simplified Management: With Posit Cloud, there’s no need to worry about software installations or updates.
