It’s that time of year again! Our annual computer replacement project is underway. Saying goodbye to old technology can be a big relief…but it can also be a headache. Fortunately, ITS is here to help.
Here are five things to know if you’re expecting a replacement this summer:
1. Crashplan puts data recovery options at your fingertips.
It’s easy to wait until the day of your help desk appointment to consider your data transfer needs. Did you know that you can check on the status of your Crashplan backup at any time online? Crashplan web restore allows you to stay on top of your backup status and download files whenever you need to.
2. Tech recycling has a tangible impact!
Choosing to dispose of your technology the right way ensures that harmful materials like heavy metals are kept out of landfills and water sources1. Whether it’s 4 years old or 14, if you return a Swat device to ITS this summer, you’re helping to make sure that the waste is handled responsibly. Periodically, Swarthmore offers recycling opportunities for personal devices as well.
3. Apple devices need a little extra love.
Apple’s “Find My” service is a wonderful tool, helping to mitigate the stress of loss, misplacement, and even theft. But before you return your devices to the Swarthmore help desk, it’s important to unenroll your Apple products to allow for a smooth transition. Please review our latest Freshservice documentation to ensure that your equipment is ready for a stress-free return.
4. Want one-on-one help? The help desk loves a head’s up.
The help desk is open for walk-ins all summer, and is always happy to help you in a pinch. However, if you’d like to schedule a one-on-one consultation, an appointment is the best way to get our undivided attention. Use our Google Appointment Page to be proactive about your summer replacement needs.
5. Our student workers ROCK!
Did you know that a team of five student workers is driving our summer replacement project this year? These talented tech-stars collaborate with our full-time staff to make sure that each new computer arrives ready to support you and your individual workflow.
Not sure what you need? Feel free to ask!
