Swarthmore now has access to an unlimited number of MATLAB licenses, including an unlimited number of licenses for each toolbox. This is a major improvement to our license that eliminates issues with running out of MATLAB licenses during peak usage times and also greatly expands access to specialized toolboxes. Any member of the college community can download and run MATLAB on a college or personally-owned computer using the instructions on the MATLAB software page (login required). Your computer must be on campus or connected to VPN to run MATLAB.
No More VPN for Off Campus MATLAB Use
Faculty, staff, and students can also receive a “designated computer” license that does not require you to be on campus or use VPN. This is useful if you will be travelling or using MATLAB without network access.
All faculty and staff currently using a KIVA MATLAB license should convert their license to the designated computer license. Instructions for switching to the new license are available here: https://swatfiles.swarthmore.edu/software/MATLAB/MATLAB_facstaff_license.html (faculty/staff login required).

MATLAB and High Performance Computing
We are now also licensed for a MATLAB Distributed Computing Server with up to 32 cores. If you are interested in high performance computing with MATLAB or have any questions about the update, please get in touch with Andrew Ruether (aruethe2) in ITS.
