Garnet Pick Up Centennial Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore Garnet won 4-0 against the visiting Bryn Mawr Owls in Centennial Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Clothier Field.

Swarthmore (2-5, 1-1 CC) got a head start in the first half, when sophomores Sophia Ferguson (Brookline, Mass. / The Winsor School) [pictured left] and Hadley Roach (Middletown, Del. / St. Andrew's School) each picked up a goal for the Garnet. Ferguson tapped in a pass from Natalie Stone '09 (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) [pictured below] for her first goal of the season ,while Roach’s goal was unassisted at 22:13.

The first half closed with 2-0 showing on the score board in favor of the Garnet. The Swarthmore offense tallied 11 shots and drew six penalty corners.

The game finished up with unassisted goals by Stone (her third goal of the season) in the 36th minute of the game. Freshman defender Lara Hasychak (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis Brookline) notched her first collegiate goal to make the final score 4-0.

Garnet junior Gina Grubb (Pittsburg, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) started in goal for Swarthmore and Katie Ashmore ’11 (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) subbed in the second half.

Swarthmore conclude a three-game home stand on Thursday, Sept. 25, hosting non-conference opponent Arcadia. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Clothier Field.
